Tipster @phonefuturist claims that Samsung is developing a new feature for the Galaxy S27 Ultra called Polar ID.
Metalenz, a business renowned for its meta-optic solutions that can extract more information from a single image, is the developer of the technology.
This comprises human tissue liveness and facial contour information, both of which are essential for safe biometric authentication.


Samsung’s ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensor serves as the light engine for the Polar ID system, which also includes a flood illuminator.
The method is very secure since it can identify even extremely complex 3D masks and spoofing tools.
It doesn’t require a screen flash to function in low light and functions in all types of lighting. In certain situations, it might even be more secure than Apple’s Face ID.
Its small size is another important benefit. Polar ID takes up a lot less space, especially under the display, than Face ID on iPhones and iPads.
Because of this, the front-facing camera cutout wouldn’t have to be bigger than the typical punch-hole design found on Galaxy phones.
The S27 Ultra would be a significant improvement if rumors about it having Polar ID are true.

In the meantime, Ice Universe, another well-known tipster, made a rather different assertion. He claims that the S27 Ultra will use a modified HPA sensor with a slightly lower 1/1.3-inch size, known as the HP6.
It is claimed to provide performance on par with the bigger HPA despite the smaller sensor size.
The introduction of the Galaxy S27 series is still around a year away, and there will probably be many more leaks in the coming months.
Nevertheless, given that the flagship S series has been using the same sensors for the previous four years, it would be good to see Samsung finally update the camera technology.
