The budget mechanical keyboard market has exploded. Sixty dollars now buys features that cost triple that a few years ago: hot-swappable switches, gasket mounting, and wireless connectivity are all on the menu.

What you actually get for $60

Expect a solid aluminum-look plastic case, decent stabilizers that benefit from a little lubricant, and surprisingly good stock switches. RGB lighting is universal; software quality is where corners get cut.

What you give up

Premium keyboards still win on case materials, factory tuning, and quality control consistency. But the gap has narrowed so much that we would point most first-time buyers at the budget tier without hesitation.

Our recommendation: buy a hot-swappable board. Even if the stock switches disappoint, swapping them later costs far less than replacing the whole keyboard.
