Discover the exciting new features and release timeline for One UI 9.
while most Galaxy owners are still waiting for One UI 8.5, Samsung is already testing? One UI 9 is based on Android 17—and leaked builds are already out in the wild, with one reportedly running on a Galaxy S26.
So today, we’re talking rumors and early leaks: what One UI 9 looks like right now, what’s actually new in this Android 17-based build, and the big question everyone has—when you might realistically get it and which Galaxy phones are most likely to be first in line.
Quick note: this is early software. Features can change, disappear, or show up later. But the leak gives us a pretty clear direction of where Samsung is heading.
First, the situation is a little awkward for regular users.
One UI 8.5 is still rolling out slowly, and for a lot of devices, it’s not even here yet. But behind the scenes, Google already announced Android 17 back in February, and they’re beta-testing it right now. And Samsung? Reportedly, they started internal Android 17 testing back in March, aimed at the Galaxy S26 series.
Translation: even if you’re excited about Android 17, most Galaxy owners still have to get through one more major update before they even have a chance at One UI 9.
Now, let’s get into what’s actually been spotted.
According to a hands-on from SamMobile’s YouTube team, there are immediate cosmetic changes in the leaked One UI 9 build.
The first thing you notice is the Quick Panel. When you swipe down, the brightness slider and volume slider look huge—thicker, more prominent, and hard to miss. It’s the kind of change that sounds small until you see it, and then it’s all you can focus on.
As of this build, there aren’t any new settings added to the Quick Panel, but that’s the kind of thing that can change quickly as Samsung moves from internal builds to public betas.
Next up, the AI angle—because of course.
One UI 9 is adding an option inside Photo Assist that can automatically suggest prompts after it analyzes your photos. Basically, you pick an image, and instead of having to think up a clever edit idea, the phone pitches you options for how to transform it.
This is a big deal for casual users because it lowers the effort. You don’t need to know what to type. You just tap a suggestion and go. And for Samsung, it’s another step toward making AI feel baked into the phone instead of being a separate “AI app” you forget about.
Audio Eraser also gets a usability upgrade. There’s now a menu showing toggles for all supported apps, and the leak suggests it supports pretty much anything that can play video content. That’s important because features like this live or die on compatibility. If it only works in a couple of apps, people don’t trust it. If it works everywhere, it becomes part of the routine.
Now Brief is also evolving. In this build, it gets sections for different content styles, meaning Samsung is clearly trying to make it feel more like a place where you can organize information instead of just a feed that happens to exist.
And if you use Samsung DeX, there’s a small but significant tweak: there’s a new toggle placement that brings auto-hide for the status bar and taskbar into a more central, easier-to-find spot. Not flashy, but it’s the kind of refinement DeX users actually notice.
So overall, the vibe so far is that One UI 9 isn’t a full visual reinvention. It’s polish, usability tweaks, and AI getting more aggressive and more integrated.
Now the timeline, which is what most people care about.
Samsung still hasn’t officially announced a One UI 9 beta. There’s no confirmed date. But Google’s Android 17 beta is already underway, and the expectation is that Android 17’s official release will land around June.
If Samsung follows the pattern from last year, the latest flagship line gets internal testing first—so Galaxy S26—and then you see public beta testing start shortly after. Based on those leaks saying internal testing began in March, a public beta in May doesn’t sound crazy.
If that happens, here’s the likely rhythm:
Early beta access lands on the newest models first, then expands to the S25 line, then foldables, then other newer devices. Budget phones and tablets usually show up later, often toward the end of summer.
And the stable release? Realistically, that’s an end-of-year story, rolling out in waves.
Now, which phones will get it?
Samsung will eventually publish an official eligibility list, but going by Samsung’s update policies and recent patterns, the safe bet is this:

If your phone launched with Android 14, or you bought it in late 2022, 2023, or newer, you’re in a much better position.
Older models that are nearing the end of their major OS support will likely miss out. The Galaxy S22 line is a good example of a device that may get One UI 8.5 but not make the jump to Android 17-based One UI 9, depending on where it falls in Samsung’s guaranteed update window.
And it’s worth saying clearly: even if a phone doesn’t get One UI 9, it may still get security patches. So “no Android 17” doesn’t automatically mean “abandoned tomorrow.”
The bigger takeaway from all of this is simple.
One UI 9 is already real enough to leak. The design changes are already visible. The AI tools are getting more practical. And Samsung is lining up the schedule—even if One UI 8.5 still feels stuck for a lot of people.
If you want, I can also make a running list of likely eligible Galaxy models as more leaks and beta info drop. So subscribe and tell me in the comments what phone you’re using—S24, S23, a Fold, an A-series—and I’ll tell you how confident we can be about Android 17 landing on it.
Do you want Samsung to focus on new features in One UI 9, or would you rather see them slow down and prioritize smoother performance and battery life above everything else? Drop your take in the comments, because the way people answer that says a lot about where One UI should go next. See you in the next one.

Great article! The One UI 9 leaks sound exciting, especially the bold AI upgrades and futuristic direction for Galaxy devices. Samsung keeps pushing innovation, and this update could make the user experience smarter and more seamless.
Really good features
Honestly i’d rather samsung focus on performance and battery first, new features don’t mean much if the phone still feels laggy sometimes.
I used this phone very good
If these leaks are accurate, One UI 9 might actually be a game changer for Galaxy users.
One UI 9 looks like a big leap forward, especially with its AI-driven features promising a smarter, more intuitive Galaxy experience. If these smooth performance upgrades deliver as expected, Samsung users are in for a seriously refined future.

This looks like a solid step forward for Samsung. The focus on AI upgrades feels more practical this time, not just hype, especially if it actually improves daily tasks like battery management and app performance. Also really like the idea of smoother animations and a cleaner UI, that’s something Galaxy users have been asking for a while. If these leaks turn out true, One UI 9 could be one of the most refined updates yet.
It’s kinda frustrating that One UI 8.5 isn’t even fully rolled out yet, but we’re already talking about One UI 9. Samsung really needs to fix their update timing.
Thanks for sharing this update
A thicker and more prominent brightness and volume slider in the Quick Panel sounds like a great move for accessibility and ease of use. It’s those small UI tweaks that really improve the daily experience. Excited for One UI 9!

Chunky Sliders: Both the brightness and volume sliders in the Quick Panel are significantly thicker. This makes them much easier to grab and adjust with one hand.

Good products
However, it leans a bit on buzzwords. Phrases like “smooth future” are vague and don’t tell the reader exactly what to expect. Adding one specific feature (like AI camera tools or performance boosts) could make it stronger and more informative.
Overall, it’s engaging and clickable, but slightly vague and hype-driven.
