iPhone 18 Pro & Ultra Fold: Bigger, Better, and Truly Game-Changing!

The real iPhone Fold design is completely different from the online renders you’ve been seeing… and the real iPhone 18 Pro Max looks almost identical to the 17 Pro Max, except it’s noticeably thicker? Today I’ve got 17 brand-new discoveries from solid aluminum dummy models, and I’m going to prove these are legit before we even get into the good stuff.

These right here are last year’s iPhone 17 series metal dummies I got in March 2025, a full six months before Apple revealed the real 17 lineup. And when the real phones dropped, these were dead-on from every angle: the exact size, the curve of the camera plateau, camera bumps, flash, LiDAR, button placement, everything.

Even the one detail that almost nobody had leaked at the time—the 17 Pro’s wider earpiece speaker—was correct on the dummy.

Same story with the iPhone Air dummy model. Thickness, button sizes, camera bump shape, all of it matched.

So when I tell you these new iPhone Ultra Fold and iPhone 18 Pro dummy models are the real deal, I’m not guessing. Now, discovery number one.

Number one: size. I’ve got the 17 Pro Max dummy and the 18 Pro Max dummy next to my real 17 Pro Max, and the match is perfect. And on the specs printed on the dummy, the 18 Pro Max is ever so slightly taller and wider.

So the obvious question is: are your cases toast? Hold that thought.

Number two: the camera plateau is larger. Top-down you might not notice, but from the side, it’s clear the 18 Pro Max has a bigger camera area, and the phone itself is thicker—roughly a 3% thickness jump.

Number three: case compatibility. Here’s the shocker: I tried a vegan leather case first, and it fit. Then a super slim, stiff aramid fiber case… it fit. Then a rubbery, flexible case that actually wraps and protects the camera plateau… and it still fit. I did not expect that.

Number four: the camera bumps themselves are larger in diameter. We’re talking around 16.5 mm on the new dummy versus about 16.15 mm before. And there’s less space between the cameras now, so everything looks tighter and more packed.

Number five: the lenses protrude more, too. Not just the plateau—the actual lens stacks sit thicker. Side by side, it’s obvious. You’re close to another full millimeter when you include the lenses.

Number six: Dynamic Island is confirmed smaller on the 18 Pro Max dummy. The measurement here is about 14.98 mm on the new one versus around 20.06 mm on the previous. That’s roughly a quarter smaller, which is a big deal in person.

Now, number seven, the main event: the iPhone Ultra Fold. This is where the online renders have been straight-up misleading. The body proportions are different; it’s shorter than a lot of those tall, stretched renders, and the camera bump layout is not copying the typical foldable look.

Number eight: thickness. The Ultra is thick when folded—about 11 mm, compared to around 8.75 mm on the 17 Pro Max and 18 Pro Max. That screams battery and durability. But when you unfold it, it drops to roughly 5.5 mm, which is actually thinner than the iPhone Air at about 5.64 mm.

Number nine: the Ultra camera bump is massive. Next to a 17 Pro Max camera bump, it looks oversized. And when you lay it on a table, it’s a serious shelf. If Apple uses that premium glass styling like they did on the Air’s camera area, it could look expensive in a good way—but it’s still a big bump.

Number ten: pocket test. People keep saying foldables won’t fit. So I did it—front pocket, slides in, sits fine, comes out fine. In real life, it’s not the problem people want it to be.

Number eleven: speaker placement is wild. On the unfolded Ultra, the top speaker is on the left side, and the bottom speakers are on the right. That diagonal layout makes me think Apple’s aiming for a more centered-feeling spatial audio effect.

Number twelve: Camera Control is still here, under the power button, but placed lower. And honestly, that makes it easier to reach. It feels more natural for quick photos.

Number thirteen: inside display proportions. Here’s the part nobody’s talking about: the inside display, in this viewing orientation, is close to the same width as a 17 Pro Max. It just gets way taller, about 111.5 mm versus 71 mm. Translation: if you’re watching ultra-wide movies, you’ll get black bars top and bottom. But for 16:9 video like this, you get a bigger, more immersive image.

Number fourteen: iPad mini comparison. Put the iPad mini on top and, because the mini has thick bezels, the Ultra’s usable display height is almost right there with it—just not as wide. Still, it’s very close to that small-tablet vibe.

Number fifteen: one-hand use is better than you’d expect. The outer display is narrow enough that you can reach across without doing finger gymnastics. And because it’s similar in width but shorter than a Pro Max, it actually feels easier to manage one-handed.

Number sixteen: two-hand comfort when open is excellent. It’s thin on the edges, it feels light in the grip for its size, and it’s instantly giving “this is for gaming” energy. Full-screen controls, more vertical space, and it feels stable.

Number seventeen: the flash area is weird. On the dummy, you’ve got this flower-like pattern of holes up top, but something looks missing below it. My guess is the production version will finalize that layout, but right now, it’s clearly not the finished external detailing.

So yes, based on these dummies, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will look extremely similar to the 17 Pro Max, but thicker, with bigger camera hardware and a smaller Dynamic Island. And the Ultra Fold? Different proportions, different camera layout, and way more practical than the renders suggest.
