Experience a samsung wider, tablet-like foldable that redefines usability.
Samsung’s next Fold might change shape in a way that finally makes it feel more like a mini tablet and less like a tall, awkward phone—while also getting a seriously wider front screen.
Alright, here’s the rumor: Samsung’s working on three foldables for this summer—the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a third one that’s basically a wider, book-style Fold. Most leaks are calling it the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, or just the Galaxy Z Fold Wide.
And now we’ve got a fresh leak that goes beyond “it’s wider” and actually drops dimensions and display aspect ratios. So in this video, I’m going to tell you exactly what’s leaked, how it compares to the regular Fold 8 and Fold 7, and why this wider shape might be Samsung’s most important foldable move in years.
The leak comes from Ice Universe on X, and it claims the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide measures the following:
- 123.9 mm tall,
- 161.4 mm wide when it’s open,
- 82.2 mm wide when it’s closed,
- 4.3 mm thick unfolded,
- and 9.8 mm thick when folded.
So what’s the headline here? It’s shorter and wider than the Fold you’re used to.
Now, the part that matters even more than the raw millimeters: aspect ratios.
The leak says the cover display will be 4.7:3, and the inner foldable display will be 4: 3.
That 4:3 inner screen is a big deal because it’s a classic “tablet” shape. A lot of iPads use 4:3. So instead of unfolding into something that feels tall and phone-like, this would open into something that feels more like a small tablet you can actually work on.
Now let’s compare that to the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, because yes, that’s also leaked.
- The regular Fold 8 is rumored to be at about:
- 158.4 by 143.2 by 4.5 millimeters when unfolded,
- and 158.4 by 72.8 by 9 millimeters when folded.
Even without doing math on the screen area, you can hear it: the Fold 8 Wide is way shorter in height, but it gains a lot in width. When closed, 82.2 millimeters wide is a noticeable jump from the regular model’s 72.8 millimeters. In normal human terms, that could mean the front screen finally feels less cramped when you’re typing, scrolling, or using apps that just don’t love skinny displays.
And for a quick reality check against the Fold 7: we’ve heard the Fold 7’s inner display sits around a 3.33:3 aspect ratio, which is closer to “almost square.” Some people like that, but others say it’s weird for video, reading, and split-screen work. A 4:3 inner screen would be less square and more “tablet page,” which tends to be easier for multitasking and documents.
Now, rumored screen sizes: 7.6 inches on the main display and 5.4 inches on the cover screen.
So this doesn’t necessarily sound like “massively bigger,” but shape matters as much as size. A 7.6-inch display in 4:3 can feel completely different from a 7.6-inch display that’s taller or squarer. It can feel wider for two apps side by side. It can feel more natural for web pages. And it can make the keyboard less awkward.

There’s also a funny coincidence in the leak: this 4:3 inner aspect ratio lines up with rumors around Apple’s future foldable—often called the iPhone Fold)—also potentially going 4:3. If that ends up being true, it could mean the industry is converging on the same idea: the inside of a foldable should be a real tablet shape, not a stretched phone.
The leak also suggests this Fold 8 Wide might be slightly narrower than the Pura X Max, which tells us Samsung isn’t trying to go comically wide. It’s more like wide enough to fix usability, not so wide that it becomes annoying to hold.
Now, when is it supposed to launch?
The rumor is unpacked this summer, likely late July. And it should appear alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the Galaxy Watch 9 series. Watch 9 is rumored to use Snapdragon Wear Elite, which could be a big performance jump, but that’s a whole separate rabbit hole.
So why is Samsung doing a wider Fold now?
The simplest answer: competition.
Apple’s foldable is rumored for the fall, and it’s expected to go wider than most foldables. And across Android, companies keep experimenting with this “wider book-style” approach. Some brands tried it and moved away, but now it looks like the pendulum is swinging back because the front screen on skinny folds has always been the compromise.
But there’s one big concern that matters more than any leaked dimension: long-term support.
Foldables aren’t just regular phones with a bend. They need constant software love—app layout fixes, multitasking improvements, camera UI that works in every position, and durability refinements over time.
And Samsung’s track record is… mixed. They’re the leader in foldables, sure. But when companies do experimental designs, the real test is whether they stick with it and keep polishing it. If Samsung wants the Fold 8 Wide to be more than a one-off, it needs a clear commitment to updates and optimization—especially if it’s aiming for a more tablet-like use case.
So if these leaks are accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could be the Fold that finally feels like it makes sense day-to-day: a normal-ish phone on the outside and a properly shaped tablet on the inside.
If you want, I can do a follow-up video comparing the Fold 8 Wide’s leaked shape to the Fold 8, the Fold 7, and the closest “wide-style” foldables from other brands. So hit subscribe, and comment “Wide vs Regular” if you want that comparison as soon as we get the next round of leaks.
Here’s the real question: do you want your foldable to open into a near-square screen, or do you want that 4:3 tablet feel—and why? Drop your pick in the comments, because the direction Samsung chooses here is going to influence every foldable that comes after it. See you in the next one.

A wider display would make multitasking, reading, and media way more natural—closer to a tablet than a stretched phone. The real test will be whether they can keep it comfortable to hold and not too bulky.
Finally, Samsung is moving away from that narrow cover screen! The ‘Wide’ form factor makes so much more sense for a foldable. Can’t wait to see how One UI 9 optimizes this new layout

This concept feels like a bold and refreshing direction for foldables—turning the Galaxy Z Fold 8 into a wider, tablet-like device could truly enhance productivity and media experience. If Samsung executes this right, it could redefine how we use foldables and make them far more practical for everyday use.
This could really redefine the foldable experience! A broader screen on the Z Fold lineup is something users have long wanted for a more tablet-like feel. Samsung continues to push boundaries with impressive innovation.
Samsung’s New Fold 8 Wide is shaping up to redefine the foldable smartphone experience, pushing it closer than ever to a true mini tablet. With a wider display design, users can expect a more immersive viewing experience—perfect for multitasking, media consumption, and productivity on the go. This evolution in form factor could address one of the biggest limitations of previous foldables by offering a more natural aspect ratio when unfolded. Combined with likely improvements in durability, performance, and software optimization, the Fold 8 Wide positions itself as a powerful hybrid device that bridges the gap between smartphone convenience and tablet functionality.
If Samsung gets the “mini tablet” experience right with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, it could seriously change how people see foldables. A wider screen would make multitasking, reading, and watching content feel much more natural—almost like using a tablet instead of an elongated phone. The key challenge, though, will be keeping it easy to hold without making it feel too heavy or bulky.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is shaping up to be a game-changer, delivering a genuine mini tablet experience that fits right in your pocket. This one definitely brings some major upgrades!
